Classical Greek FE1 and FE2

Who should take this course?
Students interested in learning to read Classical Greek with facility.

What will we be studying?
Through a series of graded readings, students will be exposed to the social and intellectual milieu of democratic Athens. The class will cover basic forms for nouns and indicative verbs, and also give attention to vocabulary and the impact of Greek on scientific nomenclature. Supplementary readings may include parts of the Iliad or Odyssey .

What will be expected of me?
Students will be expected to participate in class and do the required work, much of which will be translations. Students must attend class twice a week after school.

How is the course taught?
Students will learn the Greek alphabet and basic noun and verb forms, then proceed through reading passages.

What are the completion requirements?
Students must do all required work and take all examinations.

Details and pre/co-requisites:
This course does not fulfill the language requirement . Prior experience in a world language is recommended. Students who have questions about this course ought to contact Dr. Brockman.
