The Stuyvesant High School Online Course Guide |
Who should take this
course?
German Level IV should be taken by
students who have successfully completed German 6 and taken the
Regents examination. Students considering this course should have a
reasonably good ability to read and write German.
What will we be studying?
Students will be introduced to
selected works of literature. In German FG7, students will first read
short stories and then Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha. In German
FG8, the reading will be Buchner's Woyzeck and Brecht's
Dreigroschenoper. This class also prepares students interested
in taking the Advanced Placement German Language exam.
What will be expected of
me?
Students must complete the reading
and hand in the written assignments on time. There will be no
examinations but a research paper (in English) for each term as a
project. Grades will be based on the written work handed in as well
as on class participation.
How is the course taught?
Due to the small enrollment, this
course involves self-discipline on the part of the students. The
class will meet and work together as a group four days a week, and
discuss their work together with Dr. Schwagermann the fifth
day.
What are the completion
requirements?
Students must hand in all of their
required work, including the research paper.
Are there any special demands,
costs, etc?
This class requires good working
habits and self-discipline.
