Introduction to Sculpture ADSI

 

Who should take this course?
Students who have successfully complete Art Appreciation and have a real interest in three dimensional design.

What will we be studying?
The course will be principally "hands-on" explorations of the techniques of sculpture. In addition to the hands-on work, there will study of the major works of the great artists from the classic, romantic, and modern eras of the field.

What will be expected of me?
Much of the time the student works independently and with minimum supervision. It is expected that the student will have a high level of self motivation and enthusiasm for the course. The student is not expected to produce "masterpieces" of art. Individual differ in their basic talents. The student is expected only to develop his/her talent to the best of his/her ability.

How is the course taught?
The "hands-on" approach to learning. The major portion of class time will be spent with students working on their individual projects. Some time will be taken by the teacher in presenting slides and photographs of the works of the great artists with appropriate comments by the teacher.

What are the completion requirements?
The student must satisfactorily complete projects chosen to be proper by joint agreement between the teacher and the student. The level of the student's talent and ability will be take into consideration in the choice of projects

Details and pre/co-requisites.
The only prerequisite is the successful completion of Art Appreciation. Some students may wish to purchase special materials for their own projects. The media will be clay wire, plaster, and papier-mâché.
