Who should take this course?
Music Appreciation is a one-semester course required of all students, usually completed in the freshman year. Students taking three semesters of performing music courses are exempt.
What will we be studying?
Music Appreciation is the ability to listen to music intelligently. The terminology necessary to discuss the subject of music intellectually and the history of music is studied through lectures, listenings and discussions.
How is the course taught?
Classes meet daily for a full credit. Class participation is a very significant part of the grade.
Unexcused absences (cuts) and lateness will not be tolerated.
Students should come to class prepared to actively engage in discussion each day. Grades are based on the following formula: Class Participation - 40% ; All Exams - 60% (Final Exam is equivalent to two regular exams).
Are there any special demands, costs, etc.?
A notebook and music chart will be kept by students to record all discussions and presented material for later reference.

No previous musical study or background is necessay to do well in Music Appreciation.
