The Stuyvesant High School Online Course Guide

Chamber Choir UVPPCC

Who should take this course?

The chamber choir is open to students who would enjoy and benefit from a small vocal ensemble. Students of all ages are encouraged to audition for the choir, especially those students whose voices have matured later in high school (i.e., juniors and seniors). Successful completion of three semesters in the Chamber Choir fulfills the music appreciation requirement for graduation.

What will we be studying?

We will study music well suited to a smaller vocal ensemble and we will prepare for performances. A cappella pieces will be of great interest. Further, chamber choir members will join the Stuyvesant Concert Chorus for the grand finale of each concert.

What will be expected of me?

Students are expected to attend all performances (at least two concerts a year). The chamber choir will meet daily for full credit. Students are expected to attend rehearsals on time daily unless legally excused. Attendance at special after-school pre-concert rehearsals is mandatory. Sufficient notice will be given in order to plan for these events.

How is the course taught?

This course is designed to improve vocal production and to teach the essentials of individual and ensemble singing. Basic vocal fundamentals are taught through vocal exercises, drills, and the study of standard choral literature. The main objective of the course is to sing choral music intelligently with a true measure of accomplishment, culminating in a public performance at the end of each term.

What are the completion requirements?

Members of the chamber choir must perform in the concert at the end of each term.

Are there any special demands, costs, etc?

We ask that students assist in selling tickets to departmental events.

Details and pre/co-requisites:

There are no pre-requisites. However, students should see Ms. Hall to arrange for an audition.
