Who Should take this
course?
This is a one-year course is
for incoming freshmen who wish to learn to play a band instrument.
What will we be
The main objective of the course is
to give students an appreciation of music by "doing." It is expected
that by the end of this one-year course, students will be able to
perform simple ensemble pieces with good intonation, tone production,
phrasing, dynamics, and expression.
How is the course
Classes meet daily for a full
credit. Students are expected to attend on time, daily, and prepared,
unless legally excused.
Are there any special demands,
costs,
Students are expected to supply
their own mouthpieces and, in some cases, neck straps. In addition,
inexpensive method books may also be needed. Students are also
expected to support the Music Department by helping to sell
tickets to, and attending, Department events.

Successful completion of this
one-year course will fulfill the Music Appreciation
(U1) requirement. No prior experience on woodwind or brass
instruments is expected. Other musical experience (such as piano) is
desirable, but not necessary.
