The Stuyvesant High School Online Course Guide |
This course is a survey of life processes, tools of a scientist, biochemistry of living things and a study of the major organ systems of animals. Students will also study life functions of plants. SL2 includes reproduction in plants and animals, genetics, ecology and evolution. Students are required to take the Regents in Living Environment at the end of the year. There is a double period laboratory exercise each week that includes microscopes, biochemical analysis and dissections. Homework in the required biology course (SL1, SL2) consists of essays, multiple choice and fill-in questions. A lab report is required for each lab, and all lab reports must be approved before the student may take the Regents exam. Also, each teacher gives a special enrichment term project. Grades are cumulative and teachers give at least 2 major exams each marking period. This course is a prerequisite for all biology electives.
