Introduction to Psychology SFIP

This is an introductory, one term non-Advanced Placement psychology course offered in the fall term for Seniors who have an interest in exploring the science of psychology. The following topics will be included in the curriculum: consciousness and alternate states, life-span development, learning and behavior analysis, memory, motivation, emotion, personality, social processes, psychological disorders, and therapies for personal change. Learning is by reading text, and textual materials in the originals, as well as extensive class discussion will be stressed. Exams and research papers will be required. The goals of the class will be to develop a knowledge and appreciation of psychology. There are no pre-requisites for entrance to the class. Student selection will be by overall and science average and a clear desire pursue a career in psychology or behavioral science. Students who have previously completed AP Psychology will not be allowed to elect the class. Students who took AP Psychology may wish to elect SRTP: Readings in the Theory of Personality, in the Senior Spring term. Students must have a minimum 90% overall average and a 90% average in science to be candidates for this course.. Although this course can be used to fulfill your Senior Requirement for graduation, it CANNOT be used fulfill your Science Requirement.
