Who should take this
course?
Future Physics, Mathematics, and
Engineering majors in college.
What will we be studying?
Classical mechanics and
electromagnetism.
What will be expected of
me?
This is a very demanding calculus
based university level introductory Physics course. Homework
assignments are very long.
How is the course taught?
Daily in class lectures and biweekly
labs.
What are the completion
requirements?
Passing average on class exams,
final exam, and lab reports.
Are there any special demands,
costs, etc.?
There may be some moderate costs
associated with this course.
Details and
pre/co-requisites:
Prerequisite: SP2XR or SP2 with a
mimimum Physics average of 95%, and completion of A.P. Calculus MC2X (95% average)
or MC4X (93% average).
SP3X/MC3X and SP4X/MC4X: Students may take AP
Level C Physics concurrently with AP
-BC Calculus, provided the student
meets the criteria of both departments. This is a one year course. If
you enroll in SP3X you will automatically be enrolled in SP4X in the
spring. Students must commit themselves to completing the entire year
and take the Advanced Placement exam. (There are no exceptions.)
Note: With special permission of the chairperson, students who have not yet taken Calculus, may sign up for a special Stuyvesant Summer High School Calculus course that will prepare them to participate in the class.
