Who should take this
course?
This course imay be used as a
prerequisite for Calculus. It should be taken by students who have
experienced difficulty in previous math courses. The curriculumwill
cover the topics in precalculus mathematics and is also designed to
strengthen the algebraic skills necessary for success in Calculus.
What will we be studying?
The major topics are Functions and
Graphs, Polynomial and Rational Functions, Exponential and
Logarithmic Functions, Trigonometric Functions, Solving Polynomial
Equations, Optimization, Sequences and Series, Conic Sections,
Systems of Equations, Limits. Term 2 of Advanced Algebra concludes with an introduction to
Calculus.
What will be expected of
me?
This is a prepared course. Students
are expected to study the textbook and class notes before each class,
complete homework assignments, and participate in class
discussions.
How is this course taught?
The course is similar to Pre-Calculus in
topics covered and the way in which material is presented. There will
be opportunities to review basic skills needed for success in both
advanced algebra and calculus.
What are the completion
requirements?
Homework is checked regularly. There
is a minimum of two exams each marking period and a final
exam.
Are there any special demands,
costs, etc.?
Students are expected to purchase a
graphing calculator. The cost is about $90.

Completion of Sequential
Mathematics. Students with math averages of 85% or higher should
elect MM81.
