The Stuyvesant High School Online Course Guide

Calculus Applications MC1 and MC2

Who should take this course?
This course is for students who want a slower-paced course than A. P. Calculus and students who wish to get a "head start" on calculus before college.

What will we be studying?
The two main topics taught are differentiation and integration. Students study some theory and apply this theory to problem-solving with special emphasis on application. In the study of differentiation, rules are developed with emphasis on velocity and acceleration, related rates, and maximum-minimum problems. Most topics in AP Calculus Level AB are covered but at a slower pace.

What will be expected of me?
All students are expected to participate in class discussion--asking and answering questions--and to complete homework assignments.

What are the completion requirements?
Each marking period the equivalent of 2 full-period tests are given. Homework assignments are an important component.

Are there any special demands, costs, etc.?
Graphing calculators are used, and although students are encouraged to buy them, they are not necessities. .

Details and pre/co-requisites:
Students should have completed either MM8A/MM8B with at least an 80% or MM81/MM82 with at least a 75%.
