Who should take this course?
Students who are interested in mathematical modeling applied to financial markets and corporate finance should take this
course.
What will we be studying?
Students will be expected to use their knowledge of mathematics
(particularly advanced algebra) to investigate mathematical
models that are used in financial markets and the corporate sector.
This course will include such topics as: asset valuation,
stock and bondpricing models, option pricing models, capital
budgeting, cost of capital, capital structure,
inventory control, portfolio theory, and mergers and
acquisitions. The material covered in this class is similar to what is covered in a college course in investments and corporate finance.
What will be expected of
me?
Besides class participation and written and reading homework assignments, there will be computer projects, quizzes, exams, and a final.
How is the course taught?
The course will be taught primarily through presentation of topics by the teacher and class discussions.
How is this course different from the typical math course?
The emphasis will be on financial markets and corporate finance.Are there any special demands,
costs, etc.?
The TI-83 calculator is required. The teacher may also use some statistical software.
Details and pre/co-requisites:
For this course, students must have completed MB33 and be enrolled in or have completed Precalculus. The student's math average must be at least 92% and an overall average of at least 90%. Knowledge of Calculus, statistics, and microeconomics is a plus, but not required.
