The Stuyvesant High School Online Course Guide

American History II H64

Who should take this course?

H64 is required and normally taken by seniors in the spring semester. But beginning in the fall of 2001, juniors will be integrated into H64 over a period of three years. Also, students who come to Stuyvesant with advanced standing in Social Studies may take this course earlier than their senior year.

What will we be studying?

H64 covers the conquest of the frontier and the industrialization of America in the second half of the nineteenth century, the progressive era at the turn of the twentieth century, World War I, the "Roaring 20's," the Depression 30's, World War II, "The Cold War," and the many changes in American life since the Second World War.

What will be expected of me?

All students will be expected to produce a substantial historical research paper. Methods of teaching, as well as the number of tests required, vary with individual teachers. Most teachers require at least eight tests during the course of the term. Many teachers encourage debates on crucial issues. Nightly homework is also the norm.

How is the course taught?

Teachers vary in their use of homework, class participation, and examinations as a basis for grading. Class discussion is an integral part of this course.
