Who should take this course?
This course may be taken in lieu of American Government H7V. Designed for students with an interest in politics and civic life. Students will be expected to spend up to three hours a week out of school in an internship related to the curriculum. Assistance in placing students in positions will be provided. Additionally, students will be required to participate in online class discussions and activities.
What will we be studying?
Participation in Government Through Civic Engagement is a one term course. We will be studying the American political system at the national and local level. Included will be the study of lobbies, forms of political participation, political parties, and the electoral and governmental processes.
Online activities will include organized group and individual work examining the nature of the United States Constitution, federalism, and the role and function of representatives and lobbyists in our society. This course is designed to take advantage of the city as a learning tool and the instructional capabilities of the Internet.
Are there any special demands or costs?
Students will have to spend approximately three hours each week in an internship related to state, local, or national government or political activities approved by the instructor. Students will be expected to participate in online group and individual activities.
What are the completion requirements?
Successful completion of the internship. Successful completion of online group and individual projects. Parental permission is required. Please print out the permission slip below and bring the completed form to the Social Studies Department Chairperson, Ms. Suri, in Room 302.
