Who should take this course?
Any student who wishes to explore current legal issues, who wishes to explore the basic legal concepts underlying the American judicial system, or who may be thinking of law as a career, should take this course.
What will we be studying?
The concept of justice; the elements of a crime; criminal defenses; criminal procedure; the due process amendments and their impact on the defendant and prosecution; the role of criminal justice in our society; the jury. There will be an in-class trial.
What will be expected of me?
A major emphasis on class participation and a willingness to tackle problems inherent in dispensing justice.
How is the course taught?
Lecture, class discussion, debates.
What are the completion requirements?
Excellent note taking and critical thinking. Six tests per term. A 6-10 page research paper is required to pass this course.

This one term course is open to juniors and seniors. Offered only during the fall term.
