Who should take this course?
Anyone interested in making his or her own videos. A strong
interest in film (any genre). Anyone interested in the creative
possibilities of the video medium.
What will be studied?
Theory and hands-on application of video production techniques
and equipment. This includes storyboarding, screenwriting, rules of
compostion, basic lighting, camera movement. Digital video/digital
editing and special effects using Macs and Final Cut Pro are now
available. We wll study the art of the documentary, the commercial,
the narrative and broadcast news and journalism. This class will have
responsibility for the production of Video Homeroom.
How is this course taught?
This course is taught through lecture, demonstration and hands-on
work, both individually and in small groups. Students work with video
equipment such as cameras and professional editing decks and
computers, as well as with broadcast television control room and
production facilities.
What are the completion requirements?
Two videos per term. Term paper comparing and analyzing various
aspects of film and video production. Notebook, daily log and one
exam per marking period.
Details and pre/co-requisites:
TJSV(Video Production) is a pre-requisite. Material replacement fee for video tape or
other media. This is a full-year course meeting one period a day and satisfies the 10 period technology lab requirement.
