Who should take this
course?
Students who are interested in the
way things work and would like to investigate, study and create
mechanisms out of wood or other materials. This course will satisfy
the five (5) period Technology requirement and can also be taken as
an unprepared elective.
What will we be studying?
Students will study and implement
the scientific principles behind the concepts of simple machines and
how they work. They will gain an understanding of the nature of the
materials they will be using such as wood, plastics and metal. The
students will also be learning the fundamental processes necessary to
work with the materials used through hand and machine tools as well
as computer aided machinery. A good working knowledge of skills,
tools and materials will enable the student to create an original
project.
What will be expected of
me?
To participate in class lessons.
To design and execute assigned as well as original wood
projects.
How is the course taught?
Lecture and demonstrations.
Student participation in project work.
Cooperative learning in group project work.
What are the completion
requirements?
Satisfactory completion of a number
of class projects.
Notebook and daily journal.
Portfolio of completed projects on slide film or Polaroid(TM)
prints.
Outside reading articles.
Tests and final exam.
Are there any special demands,
costs, etc?
Materials replacement
fee.

This course can be taken as either a
5 period Technology requirement or as an unprepared elective. This
course is offered during both the fall and spring
semesters.
