Who should take this
course?
Anyone interested in using tools and
machines to work with wood will be interested in this course. This
course will be extremely useful for students considering the
engineering or scientific research fields because the tools and
machines of this course are utilized to build models and research
equipment. Students planning to own a home one day will also find
this course very useful.
What will we be studying?
The Advanced Wood Course is designed
to provide a broad experience in the woodworking area. Topics covered
include:The nature of wood; The processing of wood; The safe use and
operation of woodworking tools and machines; How these tools and
machines work; Joining and assembling wood; Finishing wood;
Consumerism.
What will be expected of
me?
A major emphasis will be placed on
acquiring competence in using and operating woodworking tools and
machines. You will be expected to: maintain a laboratory notebook;
successfully complete the assigned project; work safely and
effectively on an individual and group basis.
How is the course taught?
Lecture, recitation, laboratory and
demonstration formats will be used. Lectures and demonstrations will
require listening and note taking skills. Laboratory skills will
require students to set up and operate woodworking
equipment.
What are the completion
requirements?
Students must successfully complete
the assigned project, take approximately 6 examinations and maintain
a laboratory notebook.

pre/co-requisites:
There are no pre/co-requisites. The
Advanced Wood Course fulfills the 10 period Technology course
requirement for graduation. This course can also be taken to fulfill
a senior elective.
