The Stuyvesant High School Online Course Guide

VD1/VD2/VD2H - Sophomore Drafting

Technical Graphic Communication *VD1 and VD2

Being able to communicate information about technology and to be able to mentally manipulate geometry are two primary reasons that we teach Technical Graphic Communication. Technical sketching, mechanical drawing, technical illustration and computer aided design, are a part of the mix of concepts and skills that students need to know to do this effectively. The technical drawing styles listed above comprise a universal language which allows for the graphic explanation of mechanical phenomena and the modeling of complex geometry, which is understood worldwide. The objectives of Stuyvesant's Technical Graphics Communication course are:

VD1 is a required course. VD2 is a prerequisite for Advanced CAD and Architecture courses and is highly recommended in preparation for Principles of Engineering (TENT), Principles of Technology Mechanisms (TMDW), Principles of Technology Energy Systems (TENG), Robotics (VNRT), Robotics Engineering (TNRT), and Technical and Scientific Illustration (TTD5).

* Students who successfully complete participation in the Band or Orchestra are exempted from Drafting.

Honors Drafting VD2H

Those who excel in VD1 will be selected by the Department Chairperson to participate in Honors Drafting VD2H.
