Elective and Selective Course Selection

For a complete listing of courses that are being offered next term, please check the departmental listings available within the OnLine Course Guide

For the Fall term, students complete their requests for the coming term by choosing courses from among the many selective and elective options available.

For the Spring term, after Advanced Placement Courses and courses requiring departmental approval have been entered onto student request files, students complete their requests for the coming term by choosing courses from among the many selective and elective options available.

Students have unlimited opportunity to revise and refine their choices throughout the application process from any computer with internet access.

Most required course selections require three choices. No alternate choices are required for optional courses - although placement is not guaranteed.

Note:

The DEFAULT CODE for courses which MUST have 3 choices is "ANY". If you have no preferences for a course you MUST take, you will be scheduled by your Guidance Counselor for an available, appropriate course.

The DEFAULT CODE is "NONE" for courses where choices are optional. When you do not need a particular course and want NO SUBSTITUTIONS, the word "NONE" should be shown.

If a first choice course cannot be scheduled, second or third choice requests will be honored whenever possible. However, first preference for placement in a course is always given to those students who had listed that course as their first choice.

Student request files are sent to the Guidance Counselors for review. If the Guidance Counselor feels that there is a problem or if a student has requested too many or too few courses, the student will be contacted. Students who fail to respond to requests to meet with their Guidance Counselor will necessarily have their programs altered by their Guidance Counselor without their input.
